This painting is in the style of, and in homage to, the Russian painter Nicholas Roerich (1874-1947), who, with his wife Helena, traveled throughout the Himalayan region and resided there for many years. They were in touch with the Great Eastern Masters of Wisdom and transmitted their advice and counsel to Franklin Delano Roosevelt during the second World War. Collected as The Guru Letters, evidence of his interest in Masters of Wisdom resides in the Roosevelt Library in Hyde Park.
